About Us

The Youth Risk and Resilience (YR²) Lab at Old Dominion University is dedicated to research that aims to improve the mental health and well-being of youth. Our research focuses on a range of self-harming behaviors in youth, including suicidal and nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI).With a foundation in clinical psychology, the YR² Lab is specifically interested in understanding the psychological processes that lead to suicidal & self-injurious behaviors, improving the identification of risk for these behaviors, & clarifying modifiable targets for intervention & prevention among youth.Visit the Research section of our main site to learn more!

Need Help?

If you're thinking about hurting yourself or attempting suicide, tell someone who can help right away:

  • Call your therapist or counselor

  • Call your doctor’s office

  • Contact one of the free, 24-hour crisis resources listed below to speak with a trained crisis counselor

  • Go to the nearest hospital ER

  • Call 911 for emergency services

If it's possible, ask a family member or friend to help you make these calls or take you to the hospital.
